Original Story:

A 14-year-old Wyoming student has died after an incident in the parking lot of Star Valley High School, the district superintendent says.

The incident occurred Wednesday evening. The student was life-flighted to Eastern Idaho Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where he passed away Thursday morning.

The incident itself remains under investigation, according to Chief Jason Romberg of the Afton Police Department. In order to protect the integrity of that investigation, he declined to describe the nature of the incident.

There is no danger to the public in connection with the death, Romberg said. He also told K2 Radio News that it will likely be Monday before further details are released.

"We want to give the family some time," Romberg added.

"It's just an unfortunate accident. Nobody's at fault," Matt Erickson, superintendent of Lincoln County School District No. 2, told K2 Radio News in a phone interview.

Romberg said that school operations were set to continue as normal on Thursday. Erickson said that counselors are on hand at four schools.

"Our crisis intervention team, we've activated them. I've met with a variety of staff and students this morning. We have all counselors on deck at Star Valley High School, Star Valley Middle School and the two elementary schools that siblings attend," Erickson explained.
