Albany County is making a big move toward financial transparency.

County officials and representatives of the OpenGov Foundation will launch a new web-based platform Monday morning, giving citizens unprecedented access to County financial information.

Albany County Clerk Jackie Gonzales says anyone will be able to view revenue and expenditure data for all County departments for the past 10 years.

“The goal is to be transparent with County government,” says Gonzalez. “It’s pretty exciting.”

OpenGov says it aims to bridge the gap between citizens and government by developing software, events and coalitions encourage government to be more accessible and responsive. The Foundation, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, boasts a rapidly-expanding network of over 700 government customers across 44 states.

“I can’t tell you how many thousands of files we submitted to them,” says Gonzalez. “They have worked with Albany County very well.”

The formal announcement and demonstration of the platform is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday in the Albany County Commissioners Room – Room 105 in the Albany County Courthouse.
