Casper will likely see snow on Tuesday as the latest winter storm makes its way across the state.

A high wind warning is in effect for Casper, where wind could gust up to 75 mph on Outer Drive tonight.

Snow started falling in western Wyoming on Monday morning and is expected to continue into Tuesday morning. At least a foot of snow is expected in the Tetons, the Salt River/Wyoming Range and on the western slopes of the Wind River Mountains.

The heaviest snow is expected Monday night, with strong winds causing areas of blowing and drifting snow over mountain passes and open areas.

The National Weather Service in Riverton is calling for a wet snow in Jackson Valley, Star Valley and the Upper Green River Basin Foothills through Monday night, with over six inches expected in those areas.

Casper’s forecast currently calls for an 80 percent chance of snow Tuesday afternoon, with an inch expected to accumulate in town.

Meanwhile, light to moderate snow will hit the northern mountains and western valleys. West winds of 25-35 mph with gusts over 50 mph are likely across much of southern Wyoming.

High winds will be possible for southern Fremont County and the lower elevations of Natrona County, including Casper, again Thursday through Friday morning.

Moderate to heavy precipitation will be possible across western Wyoming from Thursday through Friday morning, with snow levels rising to near 8000 feet during the day on Thursday.

Heavy snow or rain on existing snowpack is expected to increase avalanche danger considerably.

The storm is expected to have a severe impact on Interstate 80 as well as moderate impacts on Interstates 25 and 90.
