Famous Radio Play Failed to Scare Laramie Listeners

On October 30th, 74 years ago, theater and radio savant Orson Welles and his Mercury Theater On The Air participated in a broadcast that would make its mark in American History. Welles presented a then-modern-day adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds as a series of fictitious news broadcasts reporting on a Martian Invasion of New Jersey and the U.S. eastern seaboard.

Laramie Police: Attacks On Women Similar, Don’t Know if Related

Police are saying that two separate attacks on on women in Laramie share close similarities but investigators say they may also be unrelated.

According to a Laramie P.D. press release two women were attacked, in separate incidents, within the course of three days.

Do You Support UW’s Removal of the Anti-Coal Sculpture? -Survey of the Day

The Associated Press reported yesterday that a Casper newspaper had obtained emails that allegedly showed evidence, that UW had removed a sculpture from campus due to it having caused controversy. The AP reports that the University of Wyoming sped up the removal of an anti-coal sculpture because of the furor it caused, but chose to tell the public the removal was as scheduled and because of water damage.

UW Student Wins Trip to Supercomputing Conference

UW student, Jared Baker, has earned his way to a high computing conference in Utah this fall.

By virtue of the University of Wyoming graduate student’s win in the poster presentation category at the recent Front Range High-Performance Computing (HPC) Symposium, Baker earned a trip — all expenses paid — to the Supercomputing 12 Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, Nov. 10-16.

From John Wayne to Quentin Tarantino, Wyoming Offers Film Locations

The latest feature film to have shot in the state is the upcoming Christmas release, Django Unchained from film auteur Quentin Tarantino. The trailer for Django makes it look equal parts western and 70′s style exploitation film. According to Michell Howard, of the Wyoming Film Office, although part of the film was shot near Jackson Hole, that wasn’t always the plan.
