The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is reaching out to the public for assistance as they investigate the poaching of a buck mule deer near Laramie over the weekend.

The department says the mature buck was shot on Friday, June 24 or Saturday, June 25. The carcass was found near a limestone outcropping that is popular with four-wheel-drive enthusiasts in a steep ravine north of the paved portion of Roger Canyon Road.

No meat was taken from the buck, and the antlers remained intact. Tracks at the scene reportedly indicate the vehicle used to haul the deer was fitted with aggressive tires that allowed the driver to traverse the rugged terrain.

Game Warden Jason Sherwood is hopeful that someone who was in the area over the weekend might provide more information about the crime.

"This wasn't the only vehicle to go up there," Sherwood says. "But only a couple would have been there Friday night or Saturday morning."

Anyone with information about this case can call the Laramie Game and FIsh office at 745-4046.

Tips can also be reported through the Stop Poaching Tip Line at 1-877-WGFD-TIP or online at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department website. Informants can choose to remain anonymous and may receive a cash award if information provided leads to a conviction.
