The Colorado Avalanche have signed center Matt Duchene to a five year contract extension.

The deal through 2019 will pay Matt $30 and carry an annual salary cap hit of $6 million.  Avalanche executive vice president of hockey operations Joe Sakic said "We all felt that it was important for us to secure his rights for several seasons.  With his great skills, speed, and character, he represents the identity we want the Avalanche to be."

Last season Matt had 17 goals and 26 assists.  Duchene grew up in Ontario, Canada as an Avalanche fan.
