Today is October 21, 2015. As most of you already know, it is also the day that Marty McFly traveled to the future in the 1985 film, despite many false images that have circulated the internet claiming otherwise.

As such, today is a day when many are looking back and evaluating the accuracy in the depiction of 2015. Some predictions turned into reality, while others still have yet to be seen.

Here are a couple of the things the film correctly predicted, with clips:

1. Video Conferencing

Thanks to the advent of services like Skype and Apple's FaceTime, friends and family are just a video call away. While neither of these services will display information about the person you're calling as seen in the film, it is possible to make video calls from your TV as Marty does.

2. Sequels and 3D

(video via Universal on YouTube)

In 2014, all 10 of the highest grossing films were sequels, reboots or spinoffs. The trend seems to be continuing in 2015 with only 2 of the top 10 grossing films not included in a franchise. 3D has also become exceedingly popular in theaters nationwide, causing most big films to be released in both 2D and 3D. On a more fun note, Universal recently released a mock trailer for the Jaws 19 film that Marty saw an advertisement for in 2015.

And one they got wrong: The Hoverboard

Although the Hoverboard may not exist as seen in the film, inventor Robert Bigler has been working on a product similar to it. The device doesn't levitate like Marty's Hoverboard, but instead operates like a Segway scooter with one wheel. The device costs around $4,000 and is available through popular crowdfunding website Kickstarter.

Did you have any predictions about 2015? How did they turn out?
