Balance Leads Cowgirls Past Colorado, 77-68 [VIDEO]
Six Cowgirls scored in double figures, and Wyoming used a big third quarter to knock off the Colorado Buffaloes 77-68 Monday night in Laramie.
The Cowgirls exploded for 33 points in the third quarter on 72 percent shooting from the field. They knocked down four 3-pointers in the frame. It was their first win over the Buffs in five years.
A 3-pointer by Marleah Campbell sparked a 9-0 run by the Cowgirls midway through the third. In the last 3 minutes of the quarter, UW had another spurt of 11-0 and led 62-48 going into the fourth. The Buffaloes failed to get closer than seven the rest of the way.
Liv Roberts scored 13 points, while Jordan Kelley and Marta Gomez had 12 points apiece. Campbell scored a season-high 11 points in her first start of the season. Marquelle Dent and Natalie Baker also added 11 points each. Skyler Snodgrass also chipped in seven points all in the second half.
Wyoming (7-3) won their fourth straight. They shot 47 percent in the game. Despite getting out-rebounded, 42-39, the Cowgirls had more second chance points than CU, 13-8.
Colorado (5-6) was led by Jamee Swan, who tied her career-high with 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Kennedy Leonard added 18 points. The Buffaloes shot 36 percent from the floor.
The Cowgirls trailed by eight, 20-12, after the first quarter. They battled back and tied it at 29 by halftime.
Wyoming has concluded the non-conference portion of their schedule. They will return to action on December 30. The Cowgirls open Mountain West Conference play at home against San Diego State. The game will start at 7 p.m.
