The Wyoming Cowboys have five wrestlers competing at the NCAA Championships Thursday through Saturday in St. Louis, MO.

Senior Drew Templeman and junior Bryce Meredith are making their second appearance, while this is the first trip for redshirt sophomore Branson Ashworth, junior Archie Colgan and senior Cole Mendenhall.

Wyoming has five wrestlers competing at the championships for the 24th time in program history. The Pokes finished in 18th place a year ago with three wrestlers. That was highlighted by Bryce Meredith’s runner-up performance.

Cowboys head coach Mark Branch says you’ve got to put it all on the line this weekend.

“In the positions we’re at, if you want to make big things happen, you just have to throw caution to the wind and jump in with two feet, you know, and we talked about that. We can’t be tight. We can’t be conservative. We’ve gotta take risks. We’ve got take chances.”

Meredith has the highest seed at No. 10, while Ashworth is 14th, and Templeman and Colgan are both No. 15 seeds. Mendenhall is the lone unseeded Cowboy.

Branch added, “It’s good that we got the five guys that we felt like we were going to get through. Now, we just need to take care of that opportunity that we have.”

Action on the mat is underway and continues through the finals Saturday evening.
