For the second time this season Cheyenne South took two from the Laramie High School basketball teams.

In the opener, a comeback attempt by the Laramie Lady Plainsmen fell short. They lost 38-33 to the South Bison. The nightcap saw the Laramie Plainsmen fail to hold a seven-point halftime lead and lose 49-42 to the No. 5 South Bison.

Laramie (8-9, 1-5) nearly rallied from a 21-point first half deficit. They managed only 16 points in the first three quarters of play.

Down 33-16 as they entered the fourth, the Lady Plainsmen turned things around. They held the Bison to one point over the first seven-and-a-half minutes of the final frame. The rally pulled LHS within 34-31 after a Kade Setright steal and lay-up.

Laramie had a couple of chances, but missed a 3-pointer to tie and a turnaround that would’ve got them within one.

Four free throws by South’s Ana Sanchez in the last 30 seconds allowed the Bison to hold on.

Eliza Dickinson scored ten points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Laramie. They shot 21 percent from the field and had 39 rebounds.

The Bison were led by Sanchez and Gabby Turano with nine points apiece. South shot 41 percent from the floor, but attempted 22 less shots than LHS. They finished with 43 rebounds, but also had 35 turnovers.

Despite a strong second quarter and a seven-point lead at the break, the Plainsmen couldn’t hold off the Bison and lost to fifth-ranked South.

Laramie (6-11, 1-5) dropped their fifth straight game. They trailed 14-9 after the first quarter. The Plainsmen knocked down back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers by Andrew Garcia, Jake Aadland and Chad Browning. That put LHS in front 21-14, and they had a 28-21 lead at half.

Their advantage was trimmed to 34-30 after the third. In the fourth, South opened the frame with an 11-0 run and took the lead for good. The Bison went on to the seven-point victory.

The Plainsmen shot 39 percent for the game. After 63 percent in the first half, LHS struggled and shot only 23 in last two quarters. They also out-rebounded the Bison, 28-15. Aadland led the way with 16 points and six rebounds.

South hit at a 56 percent clip for the game. Austin Barker scored 12 points, while Marquez Jefferson had ten.
