Longtime Laramie assistant coach Clint Reed is being given a chance to take the reins of the Plainsmen football program.

Reed was announced as the new head coach by new Laramie High School Principal Chuck Kern during a Friday morning meeting with the team. He was chosen from a field of five candidates interviewed earlier this week.

He replaces Chuck Syverson, who stepped down just over two weeks ago.

Reed is a first-time head coach, who has been an assistant with the football and both basketball programs at Laramie High School. He has been a varsity assistant for 10 seasons and coached the freshman for five seasons. Reed was an assistant with the boys basketball team for three seasons and one with the girls program.

The Plainsmen open the 2017 season at Deti Stadium Aug. 25 versus Kelly Walsh.
