The trial for a Laramie man accused of holding a 17-year-old girl in custody and sexually assaulting her began today in Albany County District Court. Brett Brady has been charged with kidnapping, felonious restraint and sexual assault of a minor in the fourth degree.

Prosecutors say Brady was working as a security guard at Wyoming Technical Institute when he allegedly came across a 17-year-old girl who was visiting a friend. Minor females are not allowed on campus, so Brady asked for ID which she was unable to provide. Being unable to confirm the girl's age, he took her into custody and informed her he was going to call the police. He is accused of keeping her in his custody for over six hours without calling Laramie Police.

During that time, Brady allegedly brought the girl on patrol with him twice. During the second patrol, he is accused of having told the girl that he worked for the secret service and that he was suspicious that she was wearing a wire. At that time Brady is accused of touching the girl in private areas and then forcing her to check him for a wire as well.

The defense says that while Brady did not follow procedure in detaining the girl, he did not commit any of the crimes of which he is accused. They say the girl simply needed a story to explain why she was out so late, and she told the story so she wouldn't get in trouble.

The jury trial is scheduled to end Friday.
