The top-ranked Gillette Camels rallied past the No. 3 Laramie Plainsmen, 2-1, Saturday at the UW Indoor Practice Facility.

Two goals in an eight minute span helped Gillette stay unbeaten on the season and atop the 4A East Conference standings.

Plainsmen head coach Dan Benford admitted his squad didn't control play.

"I think our guys got gassed. For the first time in this season, they weren't running the other team down. Gillette brought all their energy. They really gave us a game today (Saturday), and they deserved to win it."

Laramie took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. Cameron Campbell scored off a feed from Anthony Castano. It was Campbell's 18th goal of the season.

Gillette finally got on the board in the 38th minute, when Issac Quinones scored on a give-and-go from Dalton Young.

The match was tied 1-1 at half.

The Camels got the go-ahead and game-winning goal off a corner kick in the 46th minute. Jaden Allen took the feed to the back post and redirected it with his foot into the lower right corner of the goal.

Benford added he saw Gillette play Friday night and had his worries.

"I was really impressed with their corner kicks. I was afraid they might get one on us. They did have a couple of different ways of lining up, and they were very, very disciplined in how they ran it. That (goal) was a great corner kick."

The loss snapped Laramie's six-match win streak. The Plainsmen fell to 8-3 on the season and 4-2-0-1 in conference.

Laramie will host Cheyenne South Thursday at 5 p.m.

Laramie Lady Plainsmen

The unbeaten season came to an end Saturday for Laramie. The Lady Plainsmen lost 1-0 at second-ranked Gillette.

The Camels score the lone goal of the match in the first half, and Laramie couldn't get the equalizer.

The Lady Plainsmen are 9-1-1 overall and 5-1-1 in conference. They're now tied with Gillette for first in the 4A East.

Laramie returns to the pitch Tuesday at Cheyenne South. The varsity match is at 5 p.m.
