CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Consultants say the $259 million project to renovate the State Capitol and the adjacent Herschler Building in Cheyenne will take a year longer than planned and cost more than originally anticipated.

Consultant Tom Whetstone told state officials on the Capitol Building Restoration Oversight Group on Tuesday that the project will cost about $27.7 million more than expected.

Whetstone says the higher costs come from deferred maintenance needs at the Herschler Building, temporary space needs and things like utility work and removing asbestos and Consultants say the targeted completion date is more like late 2018 now. It was originally set to be done by late 2017.
