UPDATE: Victim of Deadly House Fire Won’t Be Identified

Fire officials are still trying to determine what caused a deadly house fire in the 3500 block of Amherst Road Thursday morning.

Scott Smith, Projects Information Officer for the City of Cheyenne, says because of Cheyenne Fire and Rescue policy, the name of the victim will never be released.

One person is dead following an early morning house fire in Cheyenne.

Firefighters were called to a single-family home in the 3500 block of Amherst Road around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

"Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back corner of the residence," said Byron Mathews, Fire Marshal for the City of Cheyenne. "They had the fire under control at 7:02 a.m."

The Laramie County Coroner's Office is currently notifying the family.

"Currently at this time the investigation is ongoing," said Mathews. "We have investigators from the Fire Prevention Office and the Cheyenne Police Department on scene."

Two Good Samaritans attempted to rescue anyone inside the house. One of those Good Samaritans was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released, but Mathews declined to say whether the fatality was the other Good Samaritan or a resident.

"I will not speak to the individuals involved," said Mathews. "Everyone was doing everything they could this morning to prevent what happened."

The house received an estimated $100,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Cheyenne fire and police departments are investigating a house fire that occurred behind the Capitol Theater this morning.

City Spokesman Scott Smith says firefighters were called to a single-family home in the 3500 block of Amherst Road around 6:30 a.m.

It took crews roughly 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze. It's unknown if anyone was injured in the fire or what caused the blaze.

The city plans to release more details at a 4:00 p.m. press conference this afternoon.
