The Cheyenne Police Department has launched an online crime mapping tool allowing the public to track what kind of crimes are happening in their neighborhood.

"The data comes from police reports as they're entered into the CPD system," said Officer Kevin Malatesta. "Most reports are entered within three business days of the crime occurring."

"The crimes are then plotted onto an interactive map of Cheyenne, allowing users to be aware of what's happening around town," he added.

Malatesta says the system won't show sensitive data, such as addresses and identifying information, nor will it show sexual assaults and juvenile crimes.
