After a year and a half of work, Cheyenne's new Public Safety Center is nearly complete.

The $26.75 million state-of-the-art facility will house the Cheyenne Police Department, along with Cheyenne Fire and Rescue Administration and the Laramie County 911 Communications and Emergency Operations Centers.

"We're still looking at sometime in April to actually open up the building for tours to the public," said Cheyenne Police Officer Dan Long. "We'll probably just establish set times so people can actually go through and see every part of that new building before we move in because once we move evidence and certain things in there the public wouldn't be allowed access to that."

Long says the department plans to start their Citizens Police Academy after they move into the new building in May.

"That way we can have our first Citizens Police Academy of the year in the new building," said Long. "It's going to push it into the summer, but hopefully we should be done before Frontier Days."
