Drunk driving rates are down in Cheyenne.

According to data released by the Cheyenne Police Department Friday, there were 50 DUI crashes in 2015, down from 82 in 2012.

Not only has the actual number of DUI crashes decreased, but the DUI crash rate, which takes into account the city's population, has dropped by 50 percent over the past four years.

"The decrease in DUI crashes can be attributed to the implementation of our DUI command van, our addition of a full-time DUI enforcement officer and all of our officers being trained in ARIDE, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement," said Officer Dan Long.

Long says the DUI command vehicle, which has all of the equipment needed to process a DUI arrest, can be used at task force events.

"That allows officers to actually go in and process a DUI quickly and more efficiently so they can get back out on the street," said Long.

Additionally, ARIDE training provides officers more advanced training in identifying signs of impairment related to drugs and alcohol.
