A Texas man named Gatlin Jeter found himself in a quite a predicament when his SUV became stuck in cruise control last Saturday. Jeter was speeding toward Huntsville at 60mph and suddenly found he was unable to stop his vehicle, ‘Today‘ reports.

All of Jeter’s attempts to slow the car failed, so he called 911 for help. Fortunately, Sam Houston State University police officer Rocky Carrell responded and chased the runaway SUV down.

By using a blocking maneuver, Carrell was able to stop Jeter’s Ford moments before it plowed into the back of a pickup stopped at a traffic light.

Jeter said he was so grateful to be rescued that he embraced Carrell. “I went over there and I hugged him,” he said. “I told him, ‘Thank you for saving my life.’”
