For the second time in her career, Wyoming senior Reed Copeland was named Mountain West Volleyball Player of the Week.

Copeland earned the league’s defensive award for her play in last weekend’s UniWyo Invite. She led the Cowgirls to a 3-0 record and the tournament title, while also being named to the all-tournament team.

The senior finished the three matches with 28 blocks and four digs. She also had 24 kills and a .438 hitting percentage. Copeland averaged 2.80 blocks per set across the three victories.

Wyoming head coach Chad Callihan called it a nice honor for Reed.

“I think she’s really committed herself to being better this season, and I think it’s beginning to show just in her play, in her statistics. I think we’ve always had a great deal of confidence in what Reed could do, and she’s showed flashes of it, but she’s never really been able to sustain it over a long period of time, and I think we’re finally seeing that this season, and it’s fun for her. I’m really happy for her. She’s a great kid, who deserves this, but I just think at some point she had to put in the time and the work to kind of see this thing through, and I think we’re finally getting to see that happen with her.”

Copeland has 60 total blocks this season on only one error. Her 1.88 blocks per set average leads the Mountain West. She’s also registered 71 kills and has a .367 hitting percentage.

Wyoming (8-1) concludes non-conference action this weekend at the Cyclone Classic in Ames, IA. UW will play the host Iowa State Thursday, followed by matches against Syracuse and Iowa Friday and Saturday.

Coach Callihan and Copeland reflected on last weekend and looked ahead to this tournament.

The Cowgirls will open Mountain West play Thursday, Sept. 20 at San Jose State.
