My kids love Mac and Cheese and I wondered what type they liked the best.

I have one regular recipe, one that I developed one evening when I forgot to get more butter and one is a bit more filling then the other two, and then put all three to the test.  My daughter had her Birthday party over the weekend and all the girls over voted unanimously the Supreme Mac and Cheese was the favorite and it’s a whole meal in one… Bonus!

Regular Mac and Cheese

1 bag of your favorite Mac noodles cooked and drained

Rue (see recipe for how to make rue below)

Add to rue making a cheese sauce

1 ¼ - 1 ½ cups warm milk

¼ teaspoon pepper

Dash of salt to taste

2 – 2 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup cheddar cheese for the topping

Once you have cooked and drained your Macaroni noodles, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and made your rue you then add the warmed milk a little at a time while stirring with a whisk and removing any lumps once that is all combined and a little thickened add the salt and pepper and the cheese add the cheese just a bit at a time while stirring to combine it all nicely (hint: never boil cheese if you want a smooth soup or sauce the boiling is what causes a grainy texture) take an appropriate size of casserole dish combine the noodles and the cheese sauce in dish top with the remaining cheese and back for 20 minutes or until the cheese on top is bubbly and a bit brown.

No butter in the house Mac and Cheese

1 package of your favorite Mac noodles cooked and drained

1 container Kraft cooking cream (Italian herb and cheese flavor)

1 ½ cup warm milk

2 – 2 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese for topping

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit in a large saucepan warm cooking cream for a few moments then add the warm milk stir until it is combined add the cheese slowly while stirring once that is all combined and thickened combine the noodles and sauce in the casserole dish and top with the remaining cheese cook for about 30 minutes and enjoy!

Supreme Mac and Cheese

This starts out the same as the traditional Mac and Cheese recipe as above, all of the directions and ingredients are the same, but as you are combining the sauce and noodles add the following ingredients:

1 pkg diced ham

2 cans of corn

Then top with 1 cup of cheddar cheese and cook for 30 minutes and enjoy!

Rue

Melt equal parts butter (aprox. 4 T.) and once melted add equal parts flour until the mixture comes together in a ball cook over low heat until the mixture starts to crumble add the warm milk a bit at a time while whisking constantly until the desired consistency.
