(GoWyo.com)Cowboy football fans can enjoy several special events this week prior to the home opener Saturday.

The University of Wyoming football team will host Idaho in the first home game of the season at 2 p.m. Saturday in War Memorial Stadium. But before that, fans can take part in events this week to bolster school spirit and enthusiasm for UW Athletics.

Here's a look at the various activities planned for kickoff week in Laramie.

Tailgate Dinner At Washakie
First up is a tailgate dinner at Washakie Dining Center, located on campus, from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday. It will feature a festive, football-themed menu with items like barbecue brisket sandwiches, hot wings, nachos, hot dogs, bratwurst, specialty cakes and peach cobbler. Normal dining rates to the center apply, and the general public is welcome to attend. The Wyoming football team will be in attendance, as well as the UW spirit squad and Pistol Pete, to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. Various games and activities and door prizes will be offered to attendees.

Pep Rally In Simpson Plaza
On Friday, the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW) will host a student pep rally from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Simpson Plaza outside the Student Union building. Free pizza will be provided to UW students, and the football team will be present to sign autographs and take pictures with fans, along with the spirit squad and Pistol Pete.

Wild Bunch Tailgate
On game day, there will be a free tailgate for all UW students hosted by the Wild Bunch, an athletic-support group comprised of Wyoming students. The tailgate will be near Gate 3 of War Memorial Stadium, in the grassy area south of the venue. The event will feature Pepsi products, a pig roast, live music by Chancey Williams and the Younger Brothers Band, games and activities and giveaways, all free of charge.
