Cowboys Go Through Key Second Scrimmage [VIDEO]
Saturday was a big evaluation day for the Wyoming Cowboys in spring football practice, as they went through a 100-play scrimmage in Laramie.
Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl reviewed the scrimmage by going through everything that caught his eye.
The offense produced six touchdowns. That included three TD passes from Josh Allen. He went 11-of-19 for 135 yards, but was sacked twice. Allen connected with C.J. Johnson on an eight-yard pass. He also hit James Price for a 29-yard score and Tyree Mayfield on a 3-yard pass.
The other three touchdowns by the offense came from back-up QB Nick Smith to Parker Dumas from 28-yards out. Milo Hall broke loose for a 50-yard TD run, and Kellen Overstreet scored from a yard out.
The Cowboys ran for 208 yards in the scrimmage. Evans ran for 74 yards on 11 carries. Hall added 72 on 11 rushes, while Overstreet had 57 yards on 10 carries. All three averaged better than 5.7 yards per rush.
Johnson led the receivers with four grabs for 61 yards and the one TD. Austin Conway added four catches for 42 yards.
Alijah Halliburton led the Wyoming defense with seven total tackles, six of them solo. He also had a tackle for loss and two pass break-ups. Garrett Crall added six tackles, which included 2.5 tackles for loss and half of a sack. Sidney Malauulu finished with three tackles for loss, including a sack, out of his four total tackles.
The Pokes defense had two sacks and 12 tackles for loss with eight pass break-ups, but didn’t force a turnover.
Wyoming returns to practice Tuesday with their final week of spring drills. The Spring Game is slated for Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. from War Memorial Stadium.
