Cowboys Win Finale Over Rebels, 35-28 [VIDEOS]
Brian Hill set the single season rushing record on a touchdown run, and Cam Coffman threw three TD passes in the Wyoming Cowboys 35-28 victory over UNLV.
Wyoming (2-10, 2-6) faced third down and three at their 36 in a tie game. Coffman connected with a wide open Jacob Hollister on a play action pass for the game-winning 64-yard touchdown pass with 2:20 left.
The Cowboys defense stopped the Rebels on four downs deep in their territory. The key play was a sack and forced fumble by senior Eddie Yarbrough. UNLV recovered the loose ball, but at their own 1-yard line and failed to convert.
Hill ran four yards on a key fourth down conversion that enabled UW to run out the clock.
UNLV (3-9, 2-6) led 7-0 until Hill broke three tackles and sprinted 72 yards down the Cowboys sideline for the tying score. On the play, Hill surpassed Ryan Christopherson for the most rushing yards in a single-season of Wyoming football.
Coffman hooked up with freshman James Price on a 35-yard scoring pass with six seconds left in the half. That gave the Pokes a 14-7 lead at half. Coffman added a 19-yard TD pass to Jake Maulhardt in the third quarter. UW’s other score was on a Justin Berger 8-yard run that put them ahead 28-21 with six minutes left.
Hill ran for 232 yards on 35 carries. It’s the fifth time in his career and fourth time this season he’s surpassed 200 yards. Hill finished the season with 1,631 yards on the ground, which was an average of 135.9 per game.
