The Laramie Fire Department, along with crews from the Laramie Solid Waste and Laramie Street Division and Albany County Central are continuing their efforts to put out the Laramie Landfill fire.

Fire Chief Dan Johnson crews are there this morning and Solid Waste is operating heavy equipment to push the debris to a central location and has contained the fire to the green waste pile.

The green waste pile is estimated to be about 4,600 tons – about 560 tons of which were from the wind storm in June. The fire is estimated to be about 1.5 acres.

JR Slingerland, Laramie Landfill supervisor, said the landfill is open and using its normal hours and residents can still bring their green waste as the landfill has set aside a new area to temporarily store it.

The cause and origin of the fire has not yet been determined.
