Every summer Dierks Bentley seems to have a song perfectly suited for speeding down a back country highway with the windows down and the stereo up. His uptempo songs have a Tasmanian Devil feel to them. Like ‘Free and Easy’ and ‘Lot of Leavin’ Left to Do’ before that, ’5-1-5-0′ is three minutes of reckless energy.

It’s a credit to Bentley and producer Brett Beavers that few people have grown tired of this style. They’re constantly changing up the subject matter while keeping the the tempo in the red. This time a girl has the singer behaving like a crazy person.

5-1-5-0, somebody call the po-po / I’m goin’ crazy, thinkin’ ‘bout you baby / 5-1-5-0, just this side of loco / I’m goin’ crazy, think I love you baby,” Bentley sings. “5-1-5-0″ is the police code for someone with mental instabilities (think Charlie Sheen).

The tempo and heedless attitude Bentley brings to this song (and all of his best songs) match the subject matter. There’s sort of a madman’s synergy as the singer longs for the girl’s touch. “Cause I, ain’t never felt like this, no / And I, I just need one kiss, from you / And I’ll be good as new / If I don’t get some of your sweet lovin’ no tellin’ what I might do,” he sings before finishing the song.

It may be uncouth to admit it, but we can all relate to the story Bentley is sharing. This song from the ‘Home’ album is a welcome return to the artist fans learned to count on for a hybrid of crazy and rowdy (crowdy?) since 2003.
