The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking information on an elk poaching in Albany County off Rogers Canyon Road.

Deputies with the Albany County Sheriff’s Office recently discovered the dead cow elk and reported it to the Game and Fish Department. The elk was shot in the right hip with a firearm and was most likely killed Friday night (Sept. 12) or Saturday morning (Sept. 13). The animal was left to suffer and the meat was left to waste.

“This was cruel. Someone shot this animal and left it for dead,” said Laramie Game Warden Kelly Todd. “It was a thrill kill. Someone saw an opportunity to kill something so they did. No meat was taken from the animal.” Warden Todd also suspects the elk was shot from the road. He is asking that anyone with information please come forward to help solve this crime.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Stop Poaching Tip Line at 1-877-WGFD-TIP (1-877-943-3847) or Warden Kelly Todd at (307) 745-4402.
