Falcons Edge Cowboys, 55-53

It was a low-scoring, at times ugly, grind-it-out game Tuesday night in Laramie, and the Air Force Falcons got out of town with a 55-53 victory over the Wyoming Cowboys at the Arena-Auditorium.

It came down to the final seconds. The Falcons Kamryn Williams made one of two free throws with 11.7 seconds left. The Cowboys went for the win, but Nathan Sobey's deep three from the right wing with three ticks on the clock came up short. Wyoming's Derek Cooke Jr. saved the rebound, but right to Air Force's Marek Olesinski, and the Falcons prevailed.

Air Force (11-15, 5-10) got a little payback for the Pokes victory in Colorado Springs back on January 22. The Falcons were led by Tre Coggins, who scored a game-high 20 points. Max Yon also scored in double figures with 14.

Wyoming (17-11, 8-7) dropped its' second straight game and falls into a tie for fifth in the Mountain West standings. Sobey led three Cowboys in double figures with 18 points. 14 of those came in the second half. Jerron Granberry added a career-high 14 points in a UW uniform, while Josh Adams chipped in 11.

A 7-2 run by Sobey gave UW the lead early in the second half, at 30-29. That was the first of 10 lead changes over the course of the half. Neither team led by more than four points the entire second period. A pair of Yon free throws with 2:37 left gave Air Force the lead for good.

Neither team led by more than six points in the first half, as both Wyoming and Air Force shot 36 percent from the field. The Falcons held a 27-23 edge at half.

The Pokes shot 20-50 (40%) from the field, but were just 4-20 (20%) from 3-point range. They also struggled at the free throw line, where UW was 9-17 (52.9%) for the game. Wyoming also was out-rebounded 37-29 by the Falcons.

Air Force was 17-45 (37.8%) from the floor. They shot just 5-22 (22.7%) from deep, but went 16-23 (69.6%) at the foul line.

The Cowboys will next play on Saturday, March 1, when they host Boise State at 4 p.m. in Laramie.
