Few College Students Seek Concealed Weapons Permit

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Security officials at Wyoming colleges say few students ask for permission to carry concealed weapons on campus.

The University of Wyoming has received three or four requests a year since 2011.

At Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, officials say one student asked about the policy over the past nine months.

State law allows students to carry concealed weapons on campuses if they have a concealed-carry permit and they get written permission from the school's security office.

UW Police Chief Mike Samp says that permission isn't likely because officials don't see the need for students to have weapons. Exceptions might be stalking victims or students in dangerous domestic situations.

Weapons aren't allowed in dorms at UW or Laramie County Community College.
