Emotional Garth Brooks Says ‘Start Spreading the Love’ After Vegas Shooting

Garth Brooks used his usual Monday night spot on Facebook Live to connect with fans immediately following the tragic Sunday night (Oct. 1) mass shooting at Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. Brooks had a poignant message, offering a sense of encouragement and humility as we try to make sense of the tragedy.

Sitting backstage at Studio G with a ‘Pray for Las Vegas’ image behind him, the superstar said what was on everybody’s minds, thanking all the police officers, first responders and volunteers who were on the scene to aid victims. In spite of the horrific images, Brooks humbly reflects that he “saw a lot of courage, saw a lot of love.”

“I’m very proud of how the audience handled itself,” he says of those who used their own bodies to shield others. “Character flows in country music. All our love to the victims, to the victims families. All our love to the bands and crews.”

Speaking directly to his fellow country music peers, Brooks encourages them to find the strength to carry on and bring the power of healing through music to their fans. “Here’s my advice: the show must go on,” he advises. “When things get bad, music and musicians go to work … Because those people in those seats, they come to get away from it all. They come to be happy, to be joyous, to sing and to love one another, that’s what it’s all about…Start spreading the love, start creating the greatest power that music holds and that’s the power to heal.”

He concludes the heartfelt video with a touching performance of his song “The Change.”

Brooks is just one of countless country stars to make a statement following the devastating event that left 59 people dead and more than 500 injured. Jason Aldean was performing onstage when the shooting occurred, but was able to seek cover and was physically unharmed.

“My heart aches for the victims and their families of this senseless act. I am so sorry for the hurt and pain everyone is feeling right now and there are no words i can say to to take that pain away,” Aldean writes in an Instagram post. “Just know u all are in my heart and my prayers as we all go through this together. Time to come together and stop the hate!”

Carrie Underwood, Keith UrbanLuke Bryan and many more have expressed their condolences about the tragedy.
