The City of Laramie Parks and Recreation Department has closed the Greenbelt Loop Trail from the Optimist Park Trailhead to Park Street.

The City of Laramie Public Works will begin creating an earthen berm that will be constructed over the Greenbelt Trail at the west end of Park Street to reduce the threat of potential flooding to protect homes and ensure public safety.

This action is in response to current weather predictions and runoff indicators which the City of Laramie and Albany County Emergency Management Agency have been monitoring. Due to safety concerns, do not attempt to cross the barriers and the earthen berm to access the closed trail.

The parks staff suggests an alternate route to access the southern portion of the Greenbelt Trail Loop. From the Optimist Park parking lot, head east through the park or along Garfield Street to Spruce Street and head south along Spruce Street until the Greenbelt Trail begins again at the bridge located at the end of Spruce Street.

Please feel free to contact the Parks and Recreation Director, Paul Harrison at 307-721-5260, or the Parks Manager, David Schott at 307-721-5264, with any question or concerns.
