Junior Maria Harutjunjan won two conference titles and the Wyoming Cowgirls finished fourth at the Mountain West Championship in Texas last weekend.

Harutjunjan won her third straight title in the 100 breaststroke last Friday. Her time of 59.85 seconds is a new MW and school record. It was the first-ever sub-minute time in conference history in that event. She followed that up with a victory in the 200 breaststroke Saturday. The winning time was 2:11.53, which was a career best and second fastest in UW history. She had placed second in the previous two years in that event.

Freshman Karla Contreras had a big weekend, as well. She placed second on the 1-meter board last Wednesday with a career-high 355.45 points. That shattered the old school record by nearly 30 points. Contreras followed that with a third place on the 3-meter board with a new career-high 352.40 points. In platform diving Saturday, Contreras finished second with a new school record 281.55 points. That was just in front of senior teammate Keely Bishop, who took third.

Other notable performances from the MW Championships included a runner-up finish from the 200 medley relay team. Junior Kelly Sheldon was also second in the 200 backstroke with a school record time of 1:55.76. Two more relays, the 200 freestyle and the 400 medley, came in third place. Sophomore Isobel Ryan added a third place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.97 seconds.

As a team Wyoming compiled 1,004 team points over the four days of competition for fourth place. Boise State won the team crown at 1,390 points. San Diego State took second with 1,139 and Nevada was third at 1,089.50 points.

The meet was held at the Texas A&M Natatorium in College Station, TX.
