A group at Laramie Senior High School is hosting a community event to help make Albany County School District #1 a safe place to be for all students.

Friends of Rachel is a club at Laramie Senior High School which stemmed from an anti-bullying club. The club felt that Friends of Rachel was a great fit for them and followed the goals they set for the school.

Friends of Rachel follows Rachel’s Challenge, which is based on the life of Rachel Joy Scott, a victim of the Columbine Shooting in 1999. Rachel’s father, Darrell Scott, created Rachel’s Challenge to tackle problems like bullying, school violence, teen suicide, discrimination and others. The goal is to create safe, connected school environments to maximize learning and teaching.

The community is invited to the Rachel’s Challenge Community Presentation at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 23 in the Laramie High School Library. This is a chance for those in the community such as educators, leaders, parents and anyone else interested to learn how to assist Friends of Rachel in their goals of creating a safe community at Albany County Schools.
