If his repeat performance at the top of the Billboard country charts with ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night’ is any indication, you can’t get enough of Jake Owen right now.

Fortunately for you, Owen is happy to oblige. He recently sat down for a session as part of Walmart’s Soundcheck series, delivering live-in-the-studio performances of some of his favorite tracks while discussing the stories behind the songs.

Reflecting on his mindset leading into the recording of the new album, Owen recalled, “I spent a lot of time this past year dedicating myself to really saying, ‘OK, this is it for me.’ I’m either going to make a record that changes my career, or I’m going to make a record that doesn’t. I feel like every song that I recorded on this record is going to really help where my life goes.”

From there, Owen played a set list that included ‘Alone With You,’ ‘Heaven,’ ‘Don’t Think I Can’t Love You’ and, of course, ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night.’

Telling the story behind ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night,’ Owen revealed that he almost didn’t record it, simply because his soon-to-be-ex-girlfriend told him he should. “So part of me instantly did not want to record the song,” he recalled, smiling. “I didn’t want her to feel that she was going to get credit for an awesome song. But then I thought I would be an idiot if I didn’t.”
