Both Laramie High School basketball teams return to action Wednesday through Friday at the Cabela’s Holiday Shootout basketball tournament in Sidney, NE.

It’s been 18 days since their last games in Riverton on Dec. 10.

The fourth-ranked Laramie Lady Plainsmen (4-0) rolled through their first four opponents. LHS won those games by an average of 22.5 points per game.

Head coach Laura Pollard said, “The Lady Plainsmen are anxious to compete at the Cabela’s tournament.”

They open against the Gothenburg, NE Swedes (2-5) in the first meeting between the two teams.

Pollard said of their 12 days of practice,

“Although a bit of a break, they have been practicing hard to improve upon rebounding on both end of the court. In addition, perfecting knowledge of different offenses that will help to minimize turnovers, the two areas that the coaches feel is pertinent at this time.”

Game time is at 2 p.m.

The Laramie Plainsmen (1-3) had an up and down opening weekend. They were blown out twice by two top teams, had an opponent pull away, but also won the first game in the Travis Brown era.

Brown pointed to the fact they’ve been getting after it since their last action with two-a-day practices.

“The boys have been focusing heavily on improving their transition defense and defensive communication since Riverton. They have been working hard to get in better shape and are continuing to build trust and respect for each other.”

The Plainsmen have a tough first game in Sidney against the Gothenburg, NE Swedes (7-0), who are the top team in class C1 in Nebraska.

Brown also said, “The Cabela’s tournament will be a good barometer of our progress. Our first game against the Swedes will test our defensive discipline, as they like to push the tempo and have an effective post presence. We as a team understand that building a program is a process and as long as we are improving daily and taking advantage of every opportunity that presents itself, we can be proud and optimistic as a group as to the direction of the program.”

The Laramie boy’s will play at 3:45 p.m.

Both games can be heard live on KOWB (AM 1290) with David Settle and VerDon Hoopes providing the call of the action.
