Laramie County Sheriff's deputies are being credited with saving the life of a Colorado hunter who accidentally shot himself in the foot with his rifle.

Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Captain Linda Gesell says the 69-year-old and another man were hunting antelope about 30 miles northeast of Cheyenne on October 29 when the shooting occurred.

Luckily, the men were able to flag the deputies down just minutes later.

Realizing they were in a remote area and that the man was losing a lot of blood, deputies applied a tourniquet to the man's upper thigh to prevent him from bleeding out.

The injured hunter was flown to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released. He is expected to make a full recovery.
