The Laramie Little League All-Star won both championship games last Friday at the Wyoming Little League District 2 Tournaments in Gillette.

The 9-10 year olds defeated Gillette National 6-3. The 11-12 year olds rallied for an 8-6 victory over Gillette.

9-10 All-Stars

The 9-10’s jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Gillette National rallied with three runs in the third to tie it. Laramie broke through in the top of the sixth inning. Jaxen Knaub hit an RBI triple that scored the go-ahead run. Mahlon Morris followed with an RBI double, and Laramie added another run for the final margin.

Brandon Chavez got the win in relief.

Manager Conrad Chavez said the team stayed with it.

“The pitcher they (Gillette National) brought in was a good little thrower, and he held us down. The kids kept their composure… finally when they had to do a pitching change, they jumped all over the new guy, and it was over.”

Chavez said what got them the title last week was their outstanding pitching.

“I think they gave up a total of four hits in three games; two earned runs; and I think 37 strikeouts. I guess one could say they were dominating.”

The Laramie 9-10 All-Stars will play Riverton at 4 p.m. Wednesday in their first game at the state tournament.

11-12 All-Stars

For the second time in the week, Laramie’s 11-12 year olds came back to beat Gillette. This time it didn’t take extra innings.

Gillette led 5-0 through three innings. Laramie scored once in the fourth, and then exploded with six runs in the fifth. George Yost hit the go-ahead RBI double that plated Reston Morehouse.

Manager Jeremy Sell they stayed with it.

“Our pitching kept going well, and finally the bats woke up.”

Sell also referred to his team’s composure to rally twice to beat the same Gillette team.

“They just showed a lot of fight both games that we were down. We were down pretty good, and we were able to stay focused and come back and get the win.”

The Laramie 11-12 All-Stars will face Lander in their opening game at the state tournament. That will be Wednesday at 4 p.m.
