Laramie Main Street Alliance Wins Main Street Program Of The Year Award

Laramie Main Street Alliance won the Main Street Program of the Year award at a banquet during the Preserve Wyoming Conference in Powell, Wyo. on Friday, September 12.

Laramie was chosen for the award because it has an amazing year in both the design and organization categories of the Main Street Four Point Approach ®. Laramie stood out as a program that is embracing the entrepreneurial spirit by changing its strategies to meet a changing market.

The award states, “for making immeasurable progress in the areas of design and organization through multiple downtown beautification projects and the diversification of funding sources".

Trey Sherwood, Executive Director for the Laramie Main Street Alliance accepted the award on behalf of the board of directors and volunteers. “Since the creation of our downtown development plan in 2012, we’ve had very clear goals for the revitalization and beautification of our commercial core. The success of the Laramie Mural Project, new artistic bike racks and colorful banners are a big part of why we are being recognized. Every volunteer, board member and donor who has contributed to the improved look and feel of downtown Laramie shares in this award”.

The Wyoming Main Street program was established by the Wyoming Legislature in 2004 and will celebrate its ten-year anniversary next year with a series of events in each community. Laramie Main Street will celebrate ten-years in March 2015. Trey Sherwood has been with the program since March 2009.

The Main Street is a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and emphasizes a community driven four-point approach to revitalization: economic restructuring, design, organization and promotion.
