A Laramie man accused of strangulation of a household member will stand trial in Albany County District Court Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Buddy E. Curby, 45, could face up to five years in prison if convicted of the charges.

Curby was arrested on Feb. 5 after Laramie Police received a call about a disturbance on West Baker Street. When the officer arrived at the scene, he noticed the victim had bruises on both her arms and was bleeding from her nose and mouth, court documents state.

The victim said she and Curby were in a relationship and were living together and had gotten into a fight over Curby’s supposed infidelity. According to the affidavit, the victim told the officer that Curby had held her down on the living room couch and pressed his forearm into her throat. The victim said Curby then dragged her into the kitchen by her hair, where he head-butted her in her face and caused her teeth to fall out and cut the inside of her mouth. Curby then allegedly dragged the victim into the bathroom and threw her in the bathtub and choked her until she lost consciousness.

Curby pleaded not guilty to the charges on March 14. He is currently incarcerated at the Albany County Detention Center on a $15,000 cash bond. His trial is scheduled to run through Friday, Aug. 11.
