LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — A Laramie man has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a man in May.

Timothy Ray Harnden entered his plea Monday.

He's charged in the stabbing death of 44-year-old Paul Hamilton on May 19 during a fight at a property where they both lived.

According to court documents, Hamilton's wife lived upstairs and Harnden lived on the main floor, while Hamilton had been staying in a camper outside. Investigators say that Harnden was romantically interested in Carole Hamilton and the fight was about her.

The Associated Press reports that police say Harnden initially admitted accidentally killing Hamilton while trying to push him away. However, police say the evidence contradicts that.

Harnden is scheduled to go on trial Dec. 9.
