Laramie Montessori School: A Tuition-Free Charter School In Albany County

Laramie Montessori School is a kindergarten through sixth grade charter school. As with other charter schools in Wyoming, Laramie Montessori School is a tuition free place of education. This school uses the Montessori curriculum for students to gain an individualized education.

Christina Allen, School Director at Laramie Montessori School, says that the school is very structured within the Montessori curriculum.  She says that the concept of Montessori brings together all of the different learning styles while providing a lower stress and more natural learning environment. She says the curriculum allows that students to become a participant in their learning with a teacher facilitating children in learning how to learn.

In addition, Montessori is unique in that it has multiple ages within a classroom. The school is structured with kindergarten classrooms, lower elementary classrooms and upper elementary classrooms. Lower elementary consists of students who are in the first through third grade age range. Upper elementary consists of students in ages for fourth through sixth grade age range.

“Children within that age range are learning concepts that are pretty universal amongst children. So it follows child development,” says Allen. “And then in the classroom setting we can also utilize that for kind of resembling a family with the oldest, the middle, and the youngest child, and students can take on those kinds of roles.”

Allen says there are many misconceptions about Montessori, so she recommends that people visit the school and speak with parents and staff to learn more about the school and teaching methods. Those who want to visit the school can call the school at 742-2554 to set up a time to observe the classrooms.

Enrollment to Laramie Montessori School is selected through a lottery system on April 15. To apply for enrollment, parents or guardians must fill out a Lottery Enrollment Form which can be found on the school’s website. The form must be submitted by April 15 at 3:00 p.m. to be considered for the lottery.

Siblings of those who are already enrolled in the school will get priority during the lottery.

Families who are not selected in the lottery process will have the option to be placed on the waiting list.

The Laramie Montessori School is housed in the Lincoln Community Center located at 365 West Grand Avenue.
