Five touchdowns by the number one offense highlighted the Laramie Plainsmen intra-squad scrimmage last Saturday at the new Deti Stadium.

Laramie ran through 40 plays for their top two units and 40 more for the freshman mixed with some sophomores. The scrimmage lasted just over 90 minutes.

Plainsmen head coach Chuck Syverson felt they looked good offensively.

“We did some good things. Not real explosive, but I guess real methodical in what we were doing… I thought we ran the ball really well. We know what we’ve got in the passing game.”

Senior receiver McCade Johnson hauled in two of the TD’s including a 27-yarder in the last series for the number one offense.

The defense registered four sacks and forced two fumbles.

Syverson said of the ‘D’, “I thought we had some good run fits. Pass coverage is definitely getting better.”

They also came out healthy, which was important to Coach Syverson.

As for the conclusion of fall camp, senior Carless Looney thinks it went really well.

“Everyone’s been working hard; putting in a lot of time and effort in. This summer, everyone worked really hard; got in the weight room, and we’re going to be tough this year.”

Fellow senior Zane Garner knows there are heightened expectations for the Plainsmen this year. He says we can handle it.

“We’re going to prove ourselves; show people we’re not just another Laramie team.”

It’s now game-week preparation for the Plainsmen. They debut Friday, Aug. 26 at defending 4A champion and preseason No. 2-ranked Sheridan.
