It’s back on the road for the Laramie Lady Plainsmen and Plainsmen in 4A East Conference high school basketball action this weekend.

Laramie makes the long road trip north to face Gillette and Sheridan Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Game times Friday are at 6 p.m. for the varsity girl’s and 7:30 p.m. for the varsity boy’s. Saturday’s action is slated for 12:30 and 2 p.m., respectively.

Laramie Lady Plainsmen

Laramie was blasted by the second-ranked Camels in the first meeting a month ago, 72-21. It’s a game Lady Plainsmen head coach Laura Pollard has tried to wash away. Against No. 4 Sheridan, Laramie took the Broncs down to the wire before falling by six points, 52-46.

Pollard joined KOWB’s David Settle to discuss their upcoming action. They talk about being more competitive against Gillette, and how to turn the tide in their favor versus Sheridan.

Laramie enters the weekend at 8-9 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

The Lady Plainsmen will be without sophomore Lexi Pulley Friday night. The team’s leader is scoring, assists and steals will miss the game due to a violation of team rules.

Laramie Plainsmen

The Plainsmen were blown out by No. 2 Gillette, 68-40, in the first match-up. That came a day after Laramie had defeated Sheridan, 47-44.

Laramie will face a slightly short-handed Camels squad, who will be without Kain Morehead. He is serving a two-game suspension.

Head coach Ryan Puckett says, “Gillette is going to be a little different look this week with Kain out, but they are still Gillette. They are going to press the issue defensively and look to get shots up and second chance opportunities.”

Then it’s on to Sheridan, as the Plainsmen will try to complete the sweep of the Broncs.

Puckett knows the second part of the trip might be the bigger key.

“Sheridan is going to be a good game. They played us close a home, and it is a big game as far as conference standings goes. We are going to look to contain Blake Godwin and look for someone else to make shots on us.”

LHS is 6-11 on the season and 1-5 in the 4A East Conference.
