A big winter tradition is helping kick off 2013 as the 20th Annual Ice Fishing Derby at Lake Hattie takes place on January 5-6. Although it is expected to be another bone chiller, the big cash prizes make this one of the most popular cold weather events in the region.

The derby is a fundraiser for the Laramie Plains Lions Club, who uses the money on local projects and scholarships that benefit the community. Entry costs $30 for adults and is free for youth 14 and under. The ice fishing will go from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Registration tickets are available at the West Laramie Fly Store and the prizes are listed below.
