It's always nice to see someone following their dreams... especially locally. Nothing inspires a community like watching your fellow neighbor make it (see Aquile). This week the spotlight is on boxer/MMA fighter, Staci Vega.

Staci Vega was born on May 11, 1988 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She moved to Casper, Wyoming at the age of 10, where she continues to reside with her mother, father and younger brother. Vega is a natural athlete, having been involved in a plethora of sports growing up, to include softball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, boxing and BMX racing. Her love for every sport she competed in showed, as she always played with a smile on her face. Staci has always been big on support from her family and friends, stating that without them, she would not be who she is today. They have and always will play a huge part in her life, even before she ever stepped into the cage. Her first venture into the world of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) came at the age 19. Her introduction and inspiration to fighting came from a childhood friend that was a female boxer. Staci fought MMA for a year, then switched to boxing for the next two years. She soon realized her heart was in the cage and went back to training in MMA.

Last year, Staci got a call from Steve Alley, a local promoter, asking if she wanted to get back in the cage again. She accepted the challenge and emerged victorious. Vega soon realized fighting was more than her passion, but her companion and with no turning back, continues to train hard every day to be the best. Her plan is to become more than an MMA fighter, but a role model for young fighters everywhere; to be the girl that everyone tells a story about win or lose, and to be known not only for fighting, but her smile and love for the sport!

Staci is moving forward with those goals by being the first female from Wyoming to fight MMA in Canada on her upcoming match on April 13, 2013. We all wish her well as she crosses borders to represent the cowboy state.
