The Laramie Plainsmen are involved in game for a second consecutive week where one team will win their first game of the season.

Laramie (0-3) heads west to face the winless Red Devils in Evanston. The visiting team has won the last four meetings in the series. The Red Devils have won five of the past six according to wyoming-football.com.

The Plainsmen were able to win at Evanston, 35-20, two years ago thanks to a strong ground game and their ability to control the clock. Last year the Red Devils ruined the Deti Stadium celebration night with a shutout against LHS, 24-0.

In a head-to-head comparison, Laramie is averaging about 80 yards more per game on offense, 260 to 181.3, than Evanston. The edge is through the air, where Taylor Dodd ranks second in 4A in passing, and the Plainsmen possess 4A’s top receiver in Conor Beeston.

Defensively, both have struggled as they rank eighth (LHS) and tenth (EHS) in yards allowed per game. Though, that does equate to about 125 yards less per game given-up for the Plainsmen versus the Red Devils.

Laramie has gone from turnover woes to injury woes. After not turning the ball over last week for the first time this season, the Plainsmen approach Friday’s game without three starters on the offensive line because of injury.

Head coach Chuck Syverson knows they’ve been close the last couple of weeks and feels they’re right on the brink of breaking through. He understands how long this road trip can be and also realizes the tough circumstances they’ve been put in along the offensive line.

The only common opponent the two teams have is No. 2 Sheridan. Laramie lost to the Broncs in week 0, 42-13, while Evanston was beaten 49-3 last week.

Someone will get their first win of the season. The Laramie Plainsmen try to spoil the Evanston Red Devils’ homecoming. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. from Kay Fackrell Stadium.

KOWB (AM 1290) will provide live coverage of Friday night’s game from Evanston. David Settle and VerDon Hoopes will call the game action. The broadcast will start at 5:30 p.m.
