A man who was not allowed on WyoTech dorm property due to a previous criminal charge is accused of taking a bracelet and watch -- together worth well over $5,000 -- from a dorm room on Laramie's west side.

Brandon Joseph Hamilton, 20, could face 20 years in prison and $20,000 in fines if convicted of burglary and wrongful taking or disposing of property. He is set to appear for arraignment in Albany County District Court Nov. 29.

Court documents say a Laramie police detective spoke with the victim on Sept. 30 and learned the victim was missing at least two items that had been in a wooden box next to his bed in his apartment at 2075 W. Venture.

The missing items were a Movado wristwatch for which he paid $796 and a 14-karat yellow gold bracelet purchased for $4,829. The detective saw receipts for both items, according to his affidavit.

Hamilton was reportedly not allowed on dorm property due to a past criminal charge, according to court documents, and the victim reportedly told the detective Hamilton did not have permission to be in his bedroom or take any of his belongings.

On Oct. 3, the detective used a database of pawn brokers and found that Hamilton allegedly sold the bracelet to Mister Money on Sept. 30 for $1,000 cash. According to the pawn slip application form, Hamiton identified himself as the sole owner of the bracelet, per the affidavit.

The detective reportedly recovered the bracelet.

A search of Hamilton's home didn't turn up the watch, and the detective couldn't find it at any local pawn shops either.

But, on Oct. 4, the detective spoke to the owner of Ann's Pawn Shop on South Third Street, according to the affidavit. She reportedly received a phone call on Sept. 30 at about 9:39 a.m. from a man asking if he could sell a Movado wristwatch.

The owner, according to court documents, said that she didn't typically buy watches and was not interested. But she allegedly noted that the person who called seemed unsure how to pronounce the brand name of the watch.

According to the affidavit, the detective found that the number that called Ann's Pawn Shop matched the number of Hamilton's cell phone.

The Movado wristwatch had not been found when the detective submitted his affidavit, dated Oct. 4.
