Martina McBride Announces 2014 Cover Album, ‘Everlasting’
Martina McBride, four-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, is preparing a cover album of some of the most revered hits in American music, appropriately titled 'Everlasting.'
For this album, the star is partnering with Grammy Award-winning producer Don Was to help bring her powerful and well-loved voice to prestigious and legendary songs. With 20 Top 10 hits and six No. 1 songs of her own, McBride is certainly up to the challenge of bringing her own spin to these classics.
"These songs have beautiful melodies and emotional lyrics, which is basically all you can ask for as a singer," she says. "While this is a bit of a departure for me song-wise, stylistically I approached these songs the way I always have which is singing with as much soul and emotion as I possibly can."
The range of tracks on 'Everlasting' is quite broad, from Elvis to the Supremes, to Jimmy Ruffin and Van Morrison, spanning years of hits from 1955-2010. Additionally, the country songstress will bring an R&B flair to Aretha Franklin's 'Do Right Woman, Do Right Man' and a soulful, heart-wrenching approach to 'If You Don't Know Me by Now' from Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. McBride's album also features a collaboration with Gavin DeGraw on 'Bring It on Home to Me,' originally performed by Sam Cooke.
"I think my fans will love this record because they are some of the best songs of all time done in a very classic style," McBride furthers. "I'm so excited for them to hear it and to take this record, complete with a horn section, on the road in the spring."
This is the second album of covers McBride has accomplished in her career, her first being 'Timeless,' which she released in 2005 and earned a Platinum standing for, as well as No. 1 on country charts and No. 3 on Billboard 200. That release was her fastest-selling record ever.
'Everlasting' will street on March 4, 2014.
