LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Court officials say former Wyoming basketball player Luke Martinez was recently released on a two-week furlough to tend to undisclosed family matters.

Martinez pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge and began serving a 45-day sentence in the Albany County Jail on Aug. 12.

The Albany County Circuit Court order did not state the exact date of Martinez's release, but he began using Twitter on Aug. 31 for the first time since Aug. 12.

The Albany County Clerk confirms that Martinez's original release date will likely be pushed back to Oct. 6 because of the two-week absence.

Martinez was a starting guard for the Cowboys until he was accused of kicking an unconscious man outside a Laramie bar on the night of Dec. 30.
