Miss Wyoming Lexie Madden, a University of Wyoming student from Torrington, was named third runner-up at the Miss America Competition on Saturday night in Las Vegas. She is just the second Miss Wyoming to place in the national pageant, joining Carol Held, who was first runner-up in 1948.

Madden, 21, performed a piano solo of her own composition during the talent competition. Her pageant platform was “Raising Awareness of the Importance of Physical Activity in Youth.”

She plans a career as a pediatric physical therapist.

Representatives from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, took the stage to vie for the title Saturday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Mallory Hagan, Miss New York, was named Miss America in the competition, which was broadcast on ABC.
